Maintaining relevance

A major global bank was confronting exactly the same broad question that the whole accountancy profession and CAs confront; “How do we remain relevant, and what value do we create for our customers/stakeholders in the future?”

Like most accountants, they were stuck in a tradition of compliance, regulatory and tax reporting – but not keeping up with the rapidly emerging needs of their clients (in this case their ‘clients’ were the Business Unit managers). Second Road worked with the client to create a new vision that enthused the team, and has guided the successful transformation of the entire Finance function.

Engaging a broad group of stakeholders

This assignment required engagement by a broad group of stakeholders, a critical detail due to the fact that Finance touches all parts of this massive global organisation. This is one of the reasons that the client chose our ‘co-design’ approach over a more traditional analytic approach to strategy.

They did not want a set of Powerpoint slides – they wanted to start a movement that could lift their people’s thinking. Second Road’s ‘Strategic Conversation’ approach was just what they
needed. It is now spreading more broadly throughout the bank.
